The Social Security Code defines as employer or self-employed anyone who has a non-salaried professional activity, even if it is a part-time, on French territory.

As such, they are affiliated to particular insurance regimes :

• health insurance administered by the CANAM ("Caisse Nationale d'Assurance Maladie des Travailleurs Indépendants"),
• the insurance regime for pension, invalidity, death and complementary pension for craftsmen with CANCAVA ("Caisse Autonome Nationale de Compensation de l'Assurance Vieillesse Artisanale"), or, for tradesmen, the pension regime for the industry and commerce sector, administered by ORGANIC ("Organisation Autonome Nationale d'Assurance Vieillesse de l'Industrie et du Commerce"),
• the URSSAF ("Union Régionale de Sécurité Sociale et des Allocations Familiales") which collects personal child allowance contributions, as well as the CSG (social contribution) and the CRDS (contribution for the repayment of the national social debt).
