In order to carry on a trade activity in France, it is necessary to have French citizenship or be a legal resident of France.
It is necessary to register with the "Répertoire des Métiers" (Trade Directory) of the "Chambre de Métiers et de l'Artisanat " and, depending on the activity, it is sometimes necessary to be registered with the "Chambre de Métiers et de l'Artisanat " and the "Registre du Commerce et des Sociétés" (Commercial and Companies Register), at the same time.
Depending on the activity in question, a high school diploma (C.A.P., B.E.P., etc.), university degree (B.T.S., etc.) or three years of professional experience, may be required.
Moreover, there is a mandatory introductory management workshop with a fee (registration at the "Chambre de Métiers et de l'Artisanat "), regardless of the activity.
The activity may be carried on in the form of an individual company, a SARL, an EURL, etc.
It is important to note that increasingly stringent specific measures must be respected by companies in relation to the activity in question. This is particularly the case for environmental protection and health in the manufacturing of food products.
Applications can be submitted to the "Centre de Formalités des Entreprises" (CFE) of the "Chambre de Métiers et de l'Artisanat ", by appointment and with respect for the specified filing dates.
The CFE should be notified of all modifications during the activity as well as of any deletion.
